    Volunteer Thursday Social Assistant

    Weekly on Thursdays | 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM

    Rest Stop Ranch is a trusted and inclusive community destination for respite, recreation, education, and healing throughout and beyond the long-term-care journey. We provide spiritual-psycho-social- emotional support to long-term-care givers and receivers. We are seeking a compassionate, hospitality- minded volunteer to support our casual weekly gathering, the Thursday Social, ensuring our guests feel welcomed and refreshed.

    The Successful Candidate for Thursday Social Assistant will:

    • Facilitate Hospitality: Prepare and serve tea and coffee for caregivers and care receivers in the Caretaker’s Cottage.
    • Provide Companionship: Offer a warm welcome and a listening ear to support social connection and emotional well-being.
    • Manage Environment: Ensure the Caretaker’s Cottage remains tidy, comfortable, and welcoming throughout the event.
    • Maintain Safety: Effectively communicate Rest Stop Ranch rules in a non-threatening manner.
    • Adhere to Care Policies: Strictly follow the policy that staff and volunteers are not responsible for direct guest assistance, including dressing, eating, ambulating, or toileting hygiene .

    Required Training & Skills

    • Orientation: Volunteers are oriented and paired with a member of our team to perform tasks;

    additional on-the-job training is provided as needed.

    • Compassion & Empathy: A strong desire to act for the mission and vision of Rest Stop Ranch and support those on the long-term-care journey.
    • Communication: Able to talk informally to adults in groups and one-on-one.
    • Reliability: Ability to commit to a regular weekly schedule as outlined in the program calendar.

    The Ideal Candidate

    • Lived Experience: Personal experience as a care partner or having a family member with long- term illness or disability is highly recommended.
    • Positive Attitude: Contributing with a positive, "can-do" attitude with all guests and team members.

    2026 Program Calendar

    • The event occurs weekly on Thursdays from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM; the volunteer commitment is 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM to allow for setup and cleanup.
