Bailey-Boushay House is looking for volunteers who have a desire to make a difference in the lives of those with HIV/AIDS and other life altering illnesses. Our volunteers increase the quality of life of our residents and clients simply by their presence. Engagement with volunteers reduces isolation, anxiety, and lonliness.

Volunteers are the hands and feet of Bailey-Boushay House and contribute 13 hours each day facilitating daily activities and events. Volunteers are sometimes the only unpaid person in a resident's life. are a much needed presence to those who are in their final days of life. We are a residential care facility and outpatient facility located in Seattle that has supported those with HIV/AIDS and other life challenges for over 31 years.

We are looking for community members who have either flexible or consistent work hours. Are you a realtor? Own your own business? Settled into a career where you have a consistent schedule? You are the perfect candidate to volunteer at Bailey-Boushay House.

Are you a gifted poet? Talented photographer? Fantastic story-teller? Do you hold a current license in cosmetology? Bailey-Boushay House is always looking for those with specific talents and skills to enhance our current robust activity schedule. We look forward to hearing from you to give back to our wonderful community, make a difference in someone's life and have a life-changing experience!

Bailey-Boushay House provides skilled nursing care in our 35 bed (single rooms) Residential Care Program. Our Outpatient Program is open every day from 6:30 am to 4:00 pm and supports over 300 individuals living in our community who receive medication management, meals, support groups, community building activities, and outings. Our emergency homeless shelter provides support 24/7 for the most fragile of our clients.

What specifically are volunteers responsible for during their shift? We call our general volunteer a Volunteer Program Assistant and volunteers are currently supporting our Residential Care Program residents by providing companionship; assistance at meals, activities, and outings. Specifically, volunteers have:

    • provided a listening ear and supportive presence to someone having a difficult day
    • assisted and facilitated afternoon and evening activities from BINGO to Trivia Night to Garden Group
    • escorted residents to medical appointments
    • sat with residents and clients as lunch and dinner guests, providing encouragement during meals
    • escorted residents on walks in the community
    • enjoyed time on a patio reading to a resident
    • participated in outings- hikes, ball games, picnics and ferry rides

We offer four shifts for you to choose the one that works best with your schedule.

    • 7:30 am to 11:30 am
    • 10:30 am to 2:30 pm
    • 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm
    • 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Each shift contains the same basic tasks, yet each has their own characteristics.
