Description
This is a three-month volunteer position beginning September 1, 2023. The individual(s) will help non-native speakers of Spanish learn conversational Spanish that will enable them to be comfortable speaking with and understanding native Spanish speakers. Activities will include, but are not limited to:
- Teach life skills Spanish to primarily beginning-level students
- Prepare lessons appropriate for the students’ proficiency level
- Model natural, functional language for students
- Spend 1.5 to 2 hours per week in class with attendees
- Communicate with other volunteers and volunteer coordinators outside of the class and attend training sessions, if needed
Required Knowledge, Skills, Ability and Experience:
- Prior experience teaching preferred
- Fluency in English and Spanish
- Ability to speak well and articulate in Spanish
- Interest in working with adult learners of Spanish
- Cross-cultural sensitivity and a desire to work with students from different cultural, educational and economic backgrounds
- Flexibility and patience
