    Description

    Deputy Chief of Policy

    Project 2029 is looking for a passionate volunteer to help develop the policy briefs that underpin our mission and vision.

    Donate your time and expertise to help our core group of volunteers create a more perfect union and a democracy that truly puts the people first.

    About the Role

    As Deputy Chief of Policy you will:

    • Identify, guide, and support policy area experts in developing content for policy briefs
    • Project manage development of policy briefs & related materials
    • Review policy content to ensure alignment with Project 2029 Mission and policy structure (i.e., Day 1/Post First 100 Days/Long Term Reforms)
    • Review and provide edits to policies, guiding along the policy development trajectory (e.g., Research, Initial Draft, Internal Review, External Review)
    • Assist with recruiting, staffing, motivation, and support of the policy team
    • Provide feedback on the accuracy of policy articulation in Public Relations Campaign messaging

    Policy Deputies report to the Policy Chief and oversee the policy brief drafting functions of the team. This individual is accountable for supporting coherence across issue areas and maintaining alignment between research, messaging, and organizational objectives. Deputies project manage a diverse and changing roster of policy issue area experts.

    Key Responsibilities

    In addition to the qualifications mentioned above, the Policy Chief will:

    • Support the strategic direction and policy agenda for Project 2029
    • Ensure coherence across policy issue areas
    • Project manage the development of policy briefs
    • Facilitate and supervise the work of policy area experts and contributors
    • Align policy development with organizational mission and long-term strategy
    • Ensure policy proposals are rigorously developed, internally and externally vetted, and strategically positioned
    • Liaise with external reviewers of partner organizations and impacted groups
    • Facilitate high-level discussions on complex or contentious policy matters

    Required Skills and Experience

    • Experience in policy research and writing within government, advocacy organizations, think tanks, or comparable institutions
    • Demonstrated experience shaping and advancing policy initiatives at the state or federal level
    • Strong strategic judgment and the ability to connect policy detail to institutional direction
    • Experience managing or supervising policy researchers, analysts, or editorial leads
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
    • Comfort operating in a remote, volunteer-driven organizational structure
