    About PromiseFinance | Accounting & Finance

    PromiseFinance is the division responsible for the financial stewardship, accounting integrity, fiscal compliance, and financial operations of Mentor A Promise. The division ensures the organization maintains transparent financial systems, strong internal controls, and responsible resource management aligned with nonprofit governance standards.

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a Director of Accounting to oversee MAP’s accounting systems, financial recordkeeping, and reporting processes. This role supports the Chief of Finance in ensuring that financial documentation, reporting, and accounting procedures meet professional and regulatory standards.

    The Director of Accounting will help maintain accurate financial records, strengthen internal controls, and support reliable financial reporting across the organization.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee accounting systems and financial recordkeeping processes
    • Ensure accurate tracking of revenues, expenses, and financial transactions
    • Maintain financial documentation in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards
    • Support preparation of financial reports and internal financial documentation
    • Assist the Chief of Finance with budgeting and financial oversight processes
    • Support preparation for audits, financial reviews, and compliance documentation
    • Develop and maintain internal accounting procedures and financial controls
    • Coordinate with program, compliance, and finance teams on financial matters affecting operations
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via email and chat in Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Background in accounting, finance, or financial management
    • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
    • Experience maintaining financial records and documentation
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • CPA or equivalent professional accounting experience
    • Experience with nonprofit accounting practices and compliance requirements
    • Familiarity with grant accounting and restricted funds management
    • Experience supporting financial audits or financial reporting processes

    Commitment

    • Volunteer leadership role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration
