Peer Support Case Manager
Details
Description
Reporting to the Program Manager the Peer Support Case Manager is often one of the first steady points of contact for someone who has recently left home. You'll offer trauma-informed peer support to trans and queer people working through displacement, asylum, and their next steps toward safety. You'll walk people through how asylum and visa processes generally work, help them see what comes next, and refer them to legal and social services when someone needs more than peer support can offer. You'll hold clear boundaries throughout, as this role does not provide legal or clinical advice, while keeping every interaction and documentation confidential.
What you'll do:
- Provide trauma-informed peer support to trans and queer people navigating displacement and asylum
- Walk people through general asylum and visa process information without providing legal advice
- Maintain accurate, confidential case documentation in line with FAR's privacy policy
- Refer participants to legal, clinical, and social services when needs exceed peer support
- Escalate safety concerns or capacity gaps to the Program Manager
You might be a good fit if you have:
- A background in counseling, social work, or a related field
- Familiarity with LGBTQ+ issues in the US and with asylum and migration systems
- Strong writing and speaking skills
- Experience supporting people in vulnerable populations
- Additional languages, Spanish especially
- Lived experience of immigration or asylum
Training and supervision are provided.
Inclusion Statement
At FAR we strongly encourage applications from trans, queer, and BIPOC individuals, people with lived experience of displacement or asylum, and people from communities most affected by the conditions this organization exists to address. We welcome applicants regardless of immigration status, and we will treat every application with discretion and care.
FAR does not discriminate on the basis of gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, disability, age, religion, or any other characteristic unrelated to a candidate's ability to do the work. If you need an accommodation at any stage of the process, let us know and we will work with you.
