Volunteer Grant Researcher & Proposal Writer — MECRO Philadelphia

Help Build a Vision for Philadelphia’s Future!

The Moorish Economic Cultural Representative Organization, Inc. (MECRO), a 501(c)(4) social welfare nonprofit organization, is seeking volunteer grant researchers and proposal writers to support its Philadelphia Chapter’s community-development initiatives.

Our current flagship concept, the MECRO Philadelphia Arts & Civic Research Park, envisions a welcoming community space integrating arts, historical research, civic education, environmental stewardship, urban greening, and public engagement.

The project is presently in the conceptual and preliminary feasibility stage. No project site has been secured, and funding commitments have not yet been established.

    Volunteer Responsibilities

    • Research grants, philanthropic organizations, sponsorships, and community-development funding opportunities.
    • Identify eligibility requirements, including restrictions affecting 501(c)(4) organizations.
    • Assist with preliminary grant narratives, letters of inquiry, and project descriptions.
    • Develop a funding-opportunity tracker with deadlines, requirements, and contact information.
    • Support research into prospective partnerships and funding strategies.
    • Collaborate remotely with MECRO representatives as opportunities arise.

    Who We’re Looking For

We welcome experienced grant writers, nonprofit professionals, researchers, college students, and motivated community members.

Strong research, writing, organizational, and communication skills are especially valuable. Previous grant-writing experience is helpful but not required.

    Volunteer Arrangement

This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity. Remote participation is welcome, with flexible scheduling and responsibilities coordinated according to availability.

    Why Volunteer With MECRO?

Contribute your knowledge and skills to an emerging community initiative while gaining experience in nonprofit development, civic research, and collaborative project planning.

MECRO welcomes individuals who believe in constructive community participation, cultural preservation, education, and practical solutions.
