    Description

    OpenGov Africa is a civic-tech initiative using open-source technology, data, and community collaboration to strengthen transparency, accountability, and citizen participation across Africa.

    We are seeking a highly motivated & self starting Volunteer Graphic Designer to be part of our starter team.

    As a designer at OpenGov Africa, you’ll play a vital role in shaping our visual identity and helping us communicate our mission in a clear, engaging, and inspiring way.

    Responsibilities

    • Create graphics for social media posts, newsletters, and community campaigns.
    • Design visual assets for reports, presentations, and events.
    • Work with the marketing/content team to develop templates and branded materials.
    • Ensure brand consistency across all visuals.

    Requirements

    • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator). A strong sense of visual storytelling and creativity.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
    • Time Commitment: 4-6 hours per week.
    • Commitment Period: Minimum 8 months.
    • Remote Work: Must have reliable internet access.
    • Willing to learn or use GitHub
    • Interest in governance, community, or civic tech is a plus (but not required).

    • Flexible, remote, and project-based.
    • Approximately 4-6 hours per week, depending on your availability.
