Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, and community. Our programs operate directly within schools and community spaces—where consistency, structure, and care shape the student experience every day.

About PromiseLearning | Program Operations & Site Implementation

PromiseLearning delivers MAP’s in-person and programmatic experiences at school sites. The division ensures that programming is not only well-designed—but executed with consistency, safety, and excellence in real time.

    Role Overview

We are seeking a Program Coordinator (Site-Based) to serve as the on-the-ground operational lead at program sites.

This role ensures that daily program execution runs smoothly, mentors are supported, students are engaged, and the environment remains structured, safe, and aligned with MAP’s standards.

This is a high-impact, student-facing role that directly shapes the quality of the program experience every single day.

    Key Responsibilities

    On-Site Program Execution

    • Oversee daily program flow, transitions, and schedule adherence
    • Ensure sessions (homework help, activities, meals, transitions) run smoothly
    • Maintain a structured, safe, and supportive environment for students

    Mentor Coordination & Support

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for mentors on-site
    • Support mentor attendance, readiness, and engagement
    • Provide real-time guidance and escalation support as needed

    Student Experience & Engagement

    • Ensure students are actively engaged and supported throughout programming
    • Monitor group dynamics, behavior, and participation
    • Support a positive, inclusive, and emotionally safe environment

    Operations & Logistics

    • Coordinate materials, room usage, and daily logistics
    • Track attendance (students and mentors)
    • Support transitions between activities and spaces

    Communication & Reporting

    • Communicate daily updates, challenges, and observations to Program Leadership
    • Flag issues early and contribute to solutions
    • Maintain organized documentation of site operations

    Cross-Team Alignment

    • Collaborate with SEL, Training, and Program teams to ensure alignment
    • Support implementation of curriculum and program design at the site level
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Strong organizational and leadership skills
    • Ability to manage real-time operations in dynamic environments
    • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
    • Comfort working directly with youth in group settings
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • Experience in education, youth programs, or after-school settings
    • Experience coordinating programs or managing groups
    • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices or SEL environments
    • Experience working in school settings (NYC DOE familiarity a plus)

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • In-person at NYC school site (e.g., PS 188)
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred

    What You’ll Gain

    • Direct, hands-on leadership experience in program execution
    • Real-time operational and people management experience
    • Opportunity to shape daily student outcomes and program quality
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • A critical leadership role in scaling MAP’s in-person model

    How to Apply

Interested candidates must apply directly through Idealist and submit:

    • Resume (required)
    • Cover letter (required) describing relevant experience in program coordination, youth work, or operations and interest in MAP’s mission

This role is the difference between a good program and a working program.

Help build the structure that students can rely on—every day, every session, every moment.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with our organization.
