    Description

    Music Enrichment Volunteer

United Hospice is seeking a compassionate and creative Musical Engagement Volunteer to share live music and interactive musical experiences with hospice patients at the bedside or in small group settings.

This role goes beyond performance — it is about connection.

    Volunteers may:

    • Play live instrumental music in patient rooms
    • Facilitate sing-alongs or gentle group music sessions
    • Introduce a variety of portable instruments
    • Lead simple rhythm or call-and-response activities
    • Encourage memory-sharing through familiar songs
    • Adapt music to meet the patient’s mood and energy level

Whether offering a quiet bedside lullaby or an upbeat group engagement, your presence can bring calm, joy, and companionship.

We welcome volunteers who can play portable instruments such as:

    • Guitar
    • Ukulele
    • Keyboard
    • Violin
    • Flute
    • Harp
    • Accordion
    • Hand percussion (shakers, tambourines, rhythm sticks)
    • Or other acoustic instruments

Multiple instruments are wonderful but not required.

    Ideal Volunteer

    • Comfortable playing music for individuals or small groups
    • Warm, patient, and emotionally intuitive
    • Able to follow patient cues and adapt volume/energy
    • Reliable and communicative
    • No music therapy degree required — heart and sensitivity matter most

Experience with seniors, memory care, or healthcare settings is a plus, but not required.

This role is so impactful because music can...

    • Support emotional expression
    • Reduce anxiety and restlessness
    • Evoke cherished memories
    • Create moments of peace
    • Offer companionship when words are few

For patients and families, these musical visits often become treasured memories.

    Training & Support

    • Hospice volunteer orientation
    • Instrument Loan Library
    • Education on boundaries and patient interaction
    • Ongoing support from our Volunteer Coordinator
    • Guidance on appropriate bedside engagement

You will never be expected to navigate situations alone — staff support is always available.

If you believe in the healing power of music and want to use your talent to bring comfort and connection, we would love to hear from you.

Apply today to help create meaningful musical moments.
