Who We Are

The Oppia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to provide high quality education to all. We do this through the creation and maintenance of our free-to-use platform, Oppia (https://www.oppia.org), the coordination of our passionate contributors, and the development of critical partnerships with NGOs in the communities we aim to serve.

Where You Fit In

Millions of children are not receiving the education they deserve. Of the 61 million children worldwide who cannot attend primary school, 17 million will never step foot into a school if trends continue. Students around the world face difficulties accessing quality education due to conflict, discrimination, and lack of teacher training - and, in the wake of COVID-19, millions more children are also seeing interruptions in their daily lives, stability, and education, which makes it even more difficult for them to get the education they need to succeed.

Our community of volunteers has created a series of interactive, story-based lessons that can be played offline (using the Oppia Android app) by learners in areas without Internet. The lessons are interactive and are designed to give useful feedback to learners if they make a mistake, so that they can fix their misunderstandings and improve their skills on the fly. These lessons have proved highly engaging and effective with students from underserved communities, and we are currently aiming to complete the remainder of the Math curriculum so that it can serve as a useful aid for primary-school learners around the world.

We’re looking for someone who has good attention to detail, an interest in teaching, and enjoys finding the most intuitive way to explain a complex topic. As a member of our Math Lessons team, you will collaborate with other team members on designing, reviewing and improving lessons; writing practice questions on math topics; and implementing these lessons on the Oppia platform.

What Our Team Members Contribute

• Design the overall approach to teaching a math topic, so that learners are introduced to math concepts in an order and within a setting that makes sense.
• Devise questions that gradually increase in difficulty, and that help learners test their skills and understanding.
• Implement interactive lessons on the Oppia platform, and improve those lessons based on feedback from learners.

To start with, you’ll receive training and mentorship by experienced lesson creators, and will be working closely with a team of other creators. As you become more experienced, there may be opportunities to mentor other creators as well!
