    Description

    Founding Board Member

Algorithm is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming how students, particularly those from underserved communities, experience mathematics. We envision a future where students of color thrive in math, reaching their full mathematical potential and gaining pathways to advanced studies and careers in mathematics, science, and engineering.

Algorithm leads two key initiatives: the Advanced Math Enrichment Program, designed to nurture and challenge talented students, and the Parent Resource Hub, a support network that guides families through their children’s math journey.

    Role Summary

Algorithm seeks passionate, mission-driven leaders to serve on its founding Board of Directors. As an early-stage nonprofit, Algorithm is laying the foundation for long-term impact and sustainability. Board members will play a vital role in shaping the organization’s strategic vision, strengthening governance, and driving fundraising and community partnerships. Ideal candidates are deeply committed to advancing educational equity in mathematics and are energized by the opportunity to help build a nonprofit from the ground up. A Board Member’s actions must always be aligned with our mission, vision, core values, and education program.

    Ideal Qualifications

    • Deep commitment to educational equity, STEM access, and community empowerment.
    • Experience in one or more of the following: nonprofit start-up or governance, K–12 or higher education, mathematics education, fundraising, finance, marketing, community partnerships, or organizational development.
    • Comfort with ambiguity in a fast-evolving start-up environment.
    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse communities.
    • Prior board or committee experience is preferred but not required.

    Term & Commitment

    • Attend 4-6 annual board meetings and participate in committee work and events between sessions.
    • Commit approximately 8 hours per month toward board service, which could include attending events, assisting with fundraising, and other ambassador tasks as needed.
    • Contribute efforts to support Algorithm’s growth and sustainability.

    Why Join Algorithm’s Founding Board?

Becoming part of Algorithm’s founding Board of Directors means joining a movement to reimagine mathematics education for equity and excellence. As a founding board member, you will:

    • Play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of a new nonprofit committed to systemic change.
    • Help design programs and partnerships that redefine what’s possible for advanced learners from underserved communities.
    • Collaborate with educators, families, and community leaders who share a passion for opportunity and inclusion.
    • Join a forward-thinking team that believes brilliance exists in every child, and is determined to help it shine.
