3D Animator (Multimedia Volunteer / Unpaid Role)
Organization: A Free Bird | 501(c)(3) Nonprofit
Location: Remote
Commitment: 5–10 hours per week | Minimum 3 month commitment
A Free Bird is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization based in New York City. Our organization provides children diagnosed with cancer the opportunity to explore their artistic passions. Artistic expression has been proven to play an instrumental role in the healing process. We support children affected by cancer in their exploration of a range of self-expression such as art, music, acting, poetry, writing, singing, and other creative mediums.
We are seeking a dedicated 3D animator to join our growing company. You will collaborate with other 3D animators to create compelling and eye-catching images and campaigns to increase our user base. Your duties will include developing animations for digital platforms to enhance our accompanying text.
Responsibilities
- Create and design storyboards for digital media formats.
- Select colors, fonts, images, and layouts based on brand guidelines
- Collaborate with fellow animators using software to deliver a robust final animation
- Use a wide range of media and design software
- Develop computer graphics and animations based on a detailed design brief
- Ensure projects are completed promptly and are of high quality
- Suggest and implement best practices and optimizations throughout animation projects
- Determine voice and messaging for animated pieces
- Implement feedback and changes whenever possible
- Create visualizations that convey accurate messaging for the project
Job Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in computer animation, 3D/graphic design, fine arts or a related field
- Proficiency in programs such as Adobe Suite, or Autodesk Maya
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum of two years experience in animation
- Attention to detail
- Portfolio of work with a wide range of 3D animation projects
- Strong analytical, time management, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of animation layouts, print, and web
- Experience with both print and digital media

Commitment Expectations:
To help our teams collaborate effectively, all volunteers are expected to:
- Commit at least 3 months
- Contribute approximately 5-10 hours per week
- Attend our 30-minute virtual team meetings every Tuesday and Thursday
- Communicate proactively and work collaboratively with fellow volunteers
