    Description

    Organization: LoopRoots Foundation

    Location: Phoenix, Arizona – On-site

    Type: Volunteer

    Commitment: One-time project

    Start Date: ASAP

    Position Description:

LoopRoots Foundation is seeking an experienced Volunteer Commercial Kitchen Hood Ventilation Installer, HVAC professional, sheet-metal professional, or qualified commercial contractor to assist with the installation and roof ventilation of a commercial kitchen hood at our new warehouse and community operations facility in the Phoenix area.

Our facility will include a food preparation area used for cooking, warming, reheating, and preparing meals through our food-access programs. We need an experienced professional who can assess the space, determine the appropriate ventilation requirements, and help us complete the commercial hood exhaust installation safely and correctly.

This is a hands-on volunteer project and we are looking for someone who can help guide the installation from assessment through completion.

    Responsibilities may include:

    • Visit the facility and assess the commercial kitchen area
    • Review the stove/cooking equipment and hood placement
    • Determine the appropriate exhaust and ventilation configuration
    • Help determine whether a Type I or Type II hood system is required based on the equipment and intended use
    • Plan appropriate commercial ductwork from the hood through the roof
    • Assist with or complete roof penetration for the ventilation system
    • Install or help coordinate the rooftop exhaust fan
    • Install commercial grease/exhaust ductwork when applicable
    • Evaluate make-up air requirements
    • Ensure proper clearances and safe installation
    • Help identify the appropriate materials and equipment needed
    • Coordinate with electrical, fire-suppression, roofing, or other trades when necessary
    • Help ensure the system is prepared to meet applicable commercial kitchen, fire, building, and mechanical requirements
    • Advise LoopRoots regarding any permits or inspections required before the system becomes operational

    Ideal Candidate:

We are seeking someone with professional experience in one or more of the following:

    • Commercial kitchen hood installation
    • Commercial HVAC
    • Sheet-metal fabrication and ductwork
    • Commercial exhaust systems
    • Restaurant kitchen ventilation
    • Rooftop exhaust fan installation
    • Commercial roofing penetrations related to HVAC/exhaust systems
    • Mechanical contracting

Experience installing restaurant or commercial kitchen hood systems is strongly preferred.

Because this work involves a commercial cooking ventilation system and roof penetration, applicants should have appropriate professional experience and any licensing, certifications, or insurance required for the work they will perform.

    About the Project:

This is a one-time volunteer opportunity at LoopRoots Foundation’s new Phoenix-area warehouse and operations facility.

The project is ready to begin ASAP.

LoopRoots can work with the selected volunteer to identify the equipment and materials required for the installation. We are also open to working with a licensed contractor, HVAC company, sheet-metal company, union tradesperson, apprentice team under appropriate supervision, or company interested in having its employees participate in a community-service project.

    About LoopRoots Foundation:

LoopRoots Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing stabilization and support services to individuals and families impacted by the justice system, domestic violence, human trafficking, housing instability, food insecurity, and other barriers.
