    Blood Transportation Volunteer – Be the Link That Saves Lives

    Blood Services Transportation Specialist - Rochester District

    Be there when a hospital calls for help! Deliver life-saving blood donations to local hospitals, assist our blood collections teams with supplies, and return blood products from various locations in the region, directly helping patients in need. Whether you prefer more flexible, on-demand opportunities or regularly scheduled shifts, our user-friendly mobile app makes it easy to pick up shifts that fit your schedule.     *Must live within 30 minutes from West Henrietta*

    Shifts run typically Monday-Friday 7am-4pm (you will sign up for shifts as you are able to)

    Looking for drivers willing to stay on-call for 4 hours, especially in the afternoon

    Key Responsibilities

    • Flexible Shifts: Enjoy the flexibility of on-demand or scheduled shifts, allowing you to pick up deliveries that fit your schedule.
    • Help save lives by transporting life-saving blood or blood products to local hospitals and sites within the region to help patients in need.
    • Stay connected using the Red Cross Delivers mobile app on your smartphone to efficiently navigate between delivery sites and quickly get blood products to customers in urgent need.
    • Lend a hand by collecting empty boxes and returning them to distribution sites as needed.
    • Support our mission by delivering essential supplies to blood collection sites as required.
    • Keep us organized by completing electronic documentation accurately.
    • Drive with care and represent the American Red Cross with pride and responsibility.

    *Time Commitment*

    This volunteer opportunity has two shift options to choose from:

    • Regularly scheduled shifts: 2 to 4 shifts/month for a minimum of 6 months (Shifts are generally 4-6 hours during the daytime, evening and/or weekends)
    • On-Demand shifts: Schedule your availability throughout the week using the Red Cross Delivers mobile app. You'll receive notifications for on-demand deliveries (when hospitals need blood delivered within the next 30 minutes), allowing you to accept or dismiss them as needed (On-call shift commitment length varies per delivery and can occur in the daytime, evening and weekends)

    Qualifications

    • Ideal candidates live or work within 30 minutes of the distribution site, ensuring quick and efficient response times, preferred
    • Willingness to support the Red Cross mission, required
    • Valid state driver’s license and 3 years of licensed driving experience, required
    • Age 18+, required
    • Comfortable using smart phones and mobile apps, required
    • Ability to lift 45 lbs., required
    • Familiarity with geographic area and driving routes, required
    • Able to verify safe driving record (Note: An MVR check will be completed as a part of the interview process for this position), required
    • Current insurance and state registration if using personal vehicle, required
    • Successful completion of American Red Cross Transportation Specialist Training and Defensive Driving course and Red Cross Delivers Training, required
