    Description

Do you love to crochet? Help abused women from the comfort of your own home.

Handmade Especially for You, a tax-exempt non-profit 501(c)3 (EIN: 26-3529292) needs crocheters who want to make a difference in the lives of domestic violence victims. Please make comfort scarves for abused women!

At Handmade Especially for You, we make and distribute "comfort scarves" for women who have suffered from domestic violence and now live in shelters. We tie each scarf with a ribbon and include a note signed by the maker. Our goal in making these scarves is to provide a gift of comfort to someone who may have never received a gift before and to show that someone cares. In 2012 we made and delivered over 12,000 comfort scarves to domestic violence victims at 60 shelters in S. CA. But we barely scratched the surface of the need. We hope to continue serving at least our current 60 shelters in 2013. We need you!

Please help by crocheting. If you want to make scarves and need yarn, we can supply kits so that you canparticipate. If you want to make scarves from your own stash, here are the guidelines (more detailed instructions in "Requirements"):

Use big hooks: K, N, or P depending on the weight of your yarn

    1. Use soft yarn (for comfort).
    2. Pick happy colors.
    3. Make them four to five inches wide.
    4. Make them at least 60 inches long.
    5. Use open-weave stitch if possible (so they can be used in warm weather climates).
    6. Add some novelty yarn or ribbon to make them special.
