    Description

    Volunteer in Ghana with St. Miracle Works Educational Foundation on our Specialist Pharmacy internship and volunteer program. Interns and volunteers gain practical skills alongside experienced pharmacists in dispensaries and hospital and clinic departments. Interns will help to provide medicines, information and counseling to patients, including educating patients about the importance of medication compliance.

    Ghana is currently facing a shortage of both pharmacies and registered pharmacists, especially in rural and under-served regions. As a Pharmacy intern, you will help to address this shortage while you gain highly awesome skills contributing to the operation of pharmacies and dispensaries within clinics and hospitals in rural and semi-rural communities in Ghana.

    Pharmacy interns and volunteers are placed and/or work alongside experienced local pharmacists, dispensing medication to both in-residence and out patients.

    Pharmacy Intern Tasks include:

    1. Ensuring patients understand the importance of medication compliance.
    2. Assisting with stock management and control
    3. Providing basic pharmaceutical counseling
    4. Assisting pharmacists to dispense medications
    5. Ensuring patience receive the appropriate dose, prescription and medication.
    6. Taking payments for medications

    Pharmacy interns and volunteers should volunteer in Ghana with St. Miracle Works Educational Foundation to encounter a healthcare system that is far different from their home country. Medical treatment in Ghana especially in underserved communities is often under-resourced, and interns may encounter patients who endure conditions that intern may consider it unacceptable in their home country.

    On this program, intern should understand and expect that individual internship experience may vary, as the specific placement that you are assigned will depend on review of your CV and your current level of studies and experience.

    What to expect from your pharmacy internship:

    1. Contribute to the under-resourced pharmacy sector in Ghana.
    2. Learn hands-on pharmacy skills from experienced professionals
    3. Enjoy your free time in Ghana, explore tour attraction sites across the country including visit ot the Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle, Kakum Canopy Walkway, Mole National Park, Boti falls etc. with other international volunteers.

    Volunteer Requirements:

    1. Volunteers on this program must be 18 years and above on the program start date and duration.
    2. Volunteers on this program must be fluent in English to be able to communicate with the local people and must come along with bundle of energy.
    3. Volunteers on this program must have at least a high school educational background.

    No prior requirement is required for this program, but medical placement volunteers must have relevant medical training and certification.

    Volunteers must be able to adapt to the environment and be flexible to learn and experience the culture in Ghana.
