    About Us

    Independent Living Housing is dedicated to creating safe, supportive, and empowering housing pathways for vulnerable individuals, including older adults. Our work centers on long‑term housing access, community partnerships, and advocacy for Detroit residents.

    Opportunity Overview

    We are expanding our community engagement efforts and seeking educated, professional seniors—especially retired experts with leadership experience—who want to stay active, share their skills, and make a meaningful impact. Opportunities are available virtually, in person, or both.

    We are actively seeking retired professionals, including:

    • Social workers

    • Nurses

    • Doctors

    • Psychiatrists / Psychologists

    • Primary care providers

    • Educators

    • Senior leaders from any field

    If you bring compassion, experience, and a desire to help strengthen our community, we welcome you.

    Responsibilities

    Volunteers may help with:

    • Sharing professional expertise to support older adults and families

    • Participating in leadership discussions or advisory groups

    • Providing insights that strengthen housing access and support services

    • Contributing to community outreach, education, and empowerment activities

    • Offering virtual mentorship, guidance, or support

    • Assisting with community events or engagement projects (optional for in‑person volunteers)

    Qualifications

    We are looking for seniors who:

    • Bring professional experience in social services, health care, education, community leadership, or related fields

    • Enjoy collaborating and sharing knowledge

    • Want flexible, meaningful involvement

    • Value connection, purpose, and service

    • Are comfortable participating virtually, in person, or a mix of both

    No licensure is required for volunteer participation.

    Time Commitment

    Flexible. Volunteers may participate occasionally, monthly, or according to interest.

    • Virtual (available anywhere)

    • In‑person opportunities in Detroit, Michigan
