    Description

    Purpose

    To provide a warm, reassuring presence for patients and families checking in for Invasive Cardiology procedures. The Welcome Volunteer guides patients to their rooms, offers basic orientation to the unit, assists with simple comfort measures, and supports staff by helping with patient flow and non-clinical tasks. This role enhances the patient experience by reducing anxiety, improving communication, and promoting a smooth transition in care.

    How to Volunteer for This Opportunity

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Greet patients and families arriving for invasive cardiology procedures with a friendly, professional demeanor.
    • Assist with waiting room check in and appropriate waiting location.
    • Communicate with ACU colleagues regarding room availability and delays and update patients and families.
    • Provide directions to waiting areas, restrooms, cafeteria, and other hospital locations.
    • Communicate with nursing or clerical staff if a patient or family has questions or needs assistance beyond the volunteer’s role.
    • Ensure families understand where to wait during surgery and where they’ll receive updates.
    • Assist with coordination of communication from providers post procedure, paging families and escorting them to and from heart cath lab.
    • Retrieve water, juice, or toast for patients upon staff request.
    • Assist with discharge by escorting or wheeling patients to the Beford Circle for pickup.
    • Assist with compiling admission packets.
    • Provide light comfort measures (e.g., water, blankets, magazines) when appropriate.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information in compliance with HIPAA standards.
