About ControlAI

Leading AI scientists, including the two most cited researchers in the field, warn that building superintelligent AI could cause human extinction. ControlAI exists to stop that from happening. We campaign for a ban on the development of superintelligence and on the precursor capabilities that lead to it.

We are small and punch well above our weight:

• We've briefed over 400 lawmakers face to face across the US, UK, Canada, and Germany, including 18 US senators and members of the House.
• 100+ UK politicians from every major party have publicly signed our statement that AI poses an extinction risk. 30+ Canadian politicians have signed our call for an international prohibition on superintelligence.
• We delivered a draft bill to ban superintelligence to the UK Prime Minister's office. Canada's parliament opened an official study of AI risks after our briefings.
• We've worked with creators including SciShow and Rational Animations, with over 3 million views, plus coverage in TIME, The Guardian, and the BBC.
• 270,000 people have signed our open statement and over 190,000 messages have been sent to lawmakers through our tools.

The role:

Action Group Leads build and run local volunteer communities under the ControlAI name.

What that looks like in practice:

• Meeting your federal elected representatives and making the case to them directly
• Tabling and flyering in public
• Writing to local papers
• Building relationships with community institutions
• Running meetings, reading groups, and training for your members

What we give you

Who we're looking for:

Someone proactive who doesn't need to be chased. Someone who can hold a room and make other people want to join in. Local connections help. Prior organizing experience helps. Neither is required.

You need to be with us on the core message. Many people come to AI through worries about jobs, deepfakes, or surveillance, and those concerns are legitimate. Our work is specifically preventing extinction risk and your group's public activity will need to be focussed on that
