    Description

All-Star Readers Program at two elementary schools in Fern Hill area, Tacoma 98409

Volunteer as a reading buddy with the All-Star Readers program on Monday and Wednesday from 4:00PM - 5:15 PM. The All-Star Readers program is designed to help students in grades 1-3 struggling in reading reach their potential. Dedicated community members volunteer to help a struggling student work through their reading kit and practice literacy skills.

Another All-Star Readers program takes place on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00PM - 5:15PM

All-Star Readers is a one-on-one reading program in which community volunteers work one-on-one with a student through a reading workbook, reading games, and exciting activities for added fun.

Each volunteer typically comes in once a week to work with his/her student. Over time, each student grows and we all get to watch as they progress to the appropriate reading level.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE AMERICORPS RSVP (RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM)

The AmeriCorps RSVP is the nation's largest network for volunteers age 55 and older. The growing segment of our older population is vital to strengthening our communities through their interest in helping others. As an RSVP volunteer, you are strengthening the positive impact people 55 and over have in our communities. Our focus is to incorporate meaningful volunteer opportunities that provide purpose and a way to give back to the community.

RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers as it matches their personal interests with opportunities to serve in their communities.

Current RSVP volunteer positions include local food banks, congregate meal sites, non-profit thrift stores (shopping assistants, sorters, warehouse assistant, furniture assemblers in a fully equipped build shop), reading/enrichment/tutoring/ mentorship groups, museums, and administrative positions throughout the Greater Tacoma, Puyallup, Graham, Lakewood and Gig Harbor Peninsula.

We are continually bringing on new and unique volunteer opportunities that help our community.

RSVP is sponsored by Lutheran Community Services Northwest, a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of the people it serves.
