    Description

Super Troopers - Equine Therapeutic Volunteers

Join us at the farm this year!

The Super Troopers program provides equine therapeutic services to children and adults with special needs, with the assistance of PATH International certified instructors and dedicated volunteers. We have both an adaptive riding program as well as an equine care program for those students that do not want to ride but would still like to spend time with the horses.

Our volunteers choose their time and days to volunteer. We have three areas that the volunteers help out with. One is our Adaptive Riding Program where they will walk/jog alongside a mounted student during their class time. Class time is usually 30 - 60 min long. The second volunteer opportunity is during our Equine Care Program. This type of class is approx 45 min long. You would be paired with a student to help with class activities as well as keep them safe while in the barn. The third class to volunteer with this is our younger students ages 4-7 called Little Troopers. This class is 60 min long and the curriculum is structured to familiarize children with our horses, facilities and routines with the goal of preparing them for either Horsemanship or Super Troopers Program. Volunteers help the instructor with a class size of 4-5 students while they learn the fundamentals of barn safety, equine care, and teamwork through various horse activities.

Volunteer Orientations are coming up on March 10th, 12th and 14th. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Felicia Gray Alford at volunteer@newcanaanmountedtroop.org or complete the form below. Volunteers must be 14 years or older. No horse experience necessary.
