The American Red Cross is looking for dedicated volunteers to join our Disaster Action Team (DAT) to support individuals and families when they need it most.

Did you know? Home fires are the most common disaster in the country-and Connecticut and Rhode Island are no exceptions. When disaster strikes, the Red Cross steps in to provide care, comfort, and critical resources.

We have opportunities to support the local community surrounding our local offices listed below:

    • 1 Plymouth Place, Milford, CT 06460
    • 1031 Norwich New London Tpke (Route 32), Montville, CT 06382
    • 100 Niantic Avenue, Providence, RI 02907
    • 385 Main Street South, Suite 214, Southbury, CT 06488

What Does a Disaster Action Team Member Do?

    • Respond to local disasters, including home fires, as part of an assigned team.
    • Provide care, comfort, and compassion to affected clients, following Red Cross standards.
    • Communicate with team members and leadership to ensure continuity and safety.
    • Create and manage cases in RC Care as a second responder.
    • Assess on-scene needs and request additional resources when necessary.
    • Maintain and account for Client Assistance Cards (CACs).
    • Mentor and train new DAT Specialists and Observers.

General Responsibilities for all Service Associates:

    • Adapt to a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
    • Collaborate effectively in disaster response situations.
