    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, and community. Mentorship is at the core of our model—providing consistency, guidance, and meaningful relationships that support student growth and stability.

About PromiseLearning | Mentorship & Program Delivery

PromiseLearning ensures that mentorship across MAP programs is structured, consistent, and aligned with educational and social-emotional goals. The division builds systems that allow mentors to show up effectively—and students to receive high-quality, reliable support.

    Role Overview

We are seeking a Mentorship Program Manager to oversee the structure, coordination, and quality of mentorship across MAP programs.

This role is responsible for ensuring alignment between mentors, curriculum, and student outcomes—while managing the systems and people that make program execution consistent across sites.

This is a management and systems role—not an individual contributor role. The Program Manager leads through coordinators and ensures that execution is distributed, supported, and scalable.

    Key Responsibilities

    Program Oversight & Coordination

    • Oversee mentorship program implementation across sites and teams
    • Ensure consistency in program structure, scheduling, and delivery
    • Monitor alignment between program design and on-the-ground execution

    Team Leadership & Management

    • Manage and support Program Coordinators and Mentor Leads
    • Provide guidance, structure, and accountability across teams
    • Ensure roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and upheld

    Mentor Experience & Quality Assurance

    • Ensure mentors are supported, prepared, and aligned with program expectations
    • Partner with Training Team to reinforce onboarding and ongoing development
    • Monitor mentor engagement, retention, and effectiveness

    Curriculum & SEL Alignment

    • Work with Instructional Design and SEL teams to ensure mentorship aligns with curriculum goals
    • Ensure activities and mentor interactions support student development outcomes
    • Identify gaps between design and execution and drive improvements

    Systems & Continuous Improvement

    • Build and refine systems that support scalable mentorship delivery
    • Identify operational challenges and implement solutions through coordinators
    • Track program consistency, engagement, and performance indicators

    Communication & Reporting

    • Provide regular updates to Program Leadership on program health and needs
    • Surface risks, gaps, and opportunities early
    • Maintain organized documentation and communication via Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Experience in program management, education, or youth development
    • Strong leadership and team management skills
    • Ability to manage systems, people, and processes simultaneously
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • Experience managing coordinators or multi-site programs
    • Familiarity with mentorship models, SEL, or education programs
    • Experience in nonprofit or school-based environments
    • Strong understanding of program operations and scaling

    Commitment

    • Volunteer leadership role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Hybrid / remote, with optional NYC-based collaboration

    What You’ll Gain

    • Leadership experience managing multi-site mentorship programs
    • Opportunity to build systems that scale program quality and consistency
    • Collaboration with education, training, and leadership teams
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • A meaningful role strengthening mentorship experiences for youth

    How to Apply

Interested candidates must apply directly through Idealist and submit:

    • Resume (required)
    • Cover letter (required) describing relevant experience in program management, mentorship, or education and interest in MAP’s mission

This role ensures mentorship works—not just exists.

Help build the structure behind every relationship—so every mentor is supported, and every student receives consistency they can rely on.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with our organization.
