    Description

ReStore Saturday Volunteer – Customer Service & Store Support

Ashe County Habitat for Humanity is seeking dedicated volunteers to support our Habitat ReStore, a nonprofit retail store that generates essential revenue to help fund safe, affordable housing projects for families in Ashe County. Volunteers play a vital role in keeping the store running smoothly, welcoming customers, processing donations, and helping us serve the community with dignity and care.

Our mission: Ashe County Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that works in partnership with the people of Ashe County to eliminate substandard housing by building safe, affordable, decent housing for families in need.

    Responsibilities

ReStore volunteers help with a variety of tasks depending on interest, ability, and schedule. Typical responsibilities include:

    • Greeting and assisting customers
    • Receiving, sorting, and pricing donated items
    • Lifting and moving furniture and household goods
    • Cleaning and organizing merchandise and store areas
    • Running the cash register (especially needed on Saturdays and weekdays after lunch)
    • Providing general support to staff and fellow volunteers

We especially welcome volunteers available on Saturdays, when customer traffic and donation volume are highest. Weekday volunteers are also desired. If you want to help, we'd love to talk with you!

    Additional Opportunities

We are always happy to talk with anyone interested in helping, even if you don’t fit neatly into the tasks listed above. Habitat often has opportunities for volunteers with specialized skills, including:

    • Tradespeople who can repair or refurbish donated items
    • Volunteers who can build or assemble furniture
    • Skilled helpers who enjoy fixing things or improving store operations
    • And even more - check out our website!

Volunteers may also express interest in Habitat construction work, helping build homes alongside partner families. These opportunities are available volunteers of any skill level who are over the age of 16. (Waiver required for minors 16-17.)

    Schedule

Typical volunteer hours are between 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with ReStore hours from 10 AM – 4 PM. Volunteers may serve full days or partial shifts based on availability.

    Qualifications

No specific experience is required, just a willingness to help, a friendly attitude, and reliability. Some tasks involve lifting or physical activity, but we have roles for all abilities. (Waiver required for minors 16-17, younger volunteers must be accompanied by parent or guardian.)

    Why Volunteer with Us

Your time directly supports Habitat’s mission to expand affordable housing in Ashe County. Every item sold at the ReStore helps fund homebuilding and critical home repair projects for local families.
