Thank you for your interest in joining us in supporting our community. Your time and talents are crucial to helping adult learners develop their English language skills and expand their opportunities.
About Our ESL Program
El Buen Samaritano offers virtual English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for learning. We rely on the generosity of volunteers to serve as ESL Teachers and Teaching Assistants to guide and encourage our students throughout their language learning journey.
Curriculum: Cambridge Ventures 3rd Edition
Class Levels: Basic, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4
Volunteer Commitment
- Volunteers must commit to teaching or assisting a minimum of one class per week for the full Fall semester.
- A training session is required prior to the start of the semester (details below).
Volunteer Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Teaching experience and a basic understanding of Spanish are preferred but not required
- Must attend an in-person teacher training session on Saturday, August 22nd from 9am-3pm
- Completion of our Safeguarding Training, which includes:
- Submission of an application
- Consent to a background check
- Completion of online safety modules
Safeguarding Process and Requirements:
- Takes approximately 3–4 hours to complete
- Background checks and approvals typically take 2–7 business days
- Volunteers have 45 days from placement to complete certification
- IN PERSON SAFEGUARDING LIVE ENGAGEMENT TRAINING (3 HOUR LONG)
The application will request:
- Driver’s License number
- Residential history (past seven years)
- Work or volunteer experience
- Four personal or professional references with contact information
- Social Security Number (Your SSN is securely processed and not stored in our system. While requested, an SSN is not required to volunteer with us.)
