    Description

Build the Foundation for Food Justice in Ward 8

Are you a systems-thinker with a passion for community impact? While our onsite team feeds the neighborhood, our Operations & Logistics Coordinators build the engine that makes it all possible. We are seeking organized, tech-savvy volunteers to help us scale our impact in SE DC.

This is a hybrid role: you can help us solidify our digital infrastructure from home while occasionally joining us onsite in Ward 8 to see your systems in action. Your goal is to move us from "day-to-day" to "sustainable systems," ensuring our neighbors receive food with efficiency and dignity.

    Key Responsibilities

    • SOP Development: Help us draft and "solidify" Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for pantry intake, food safety, and distribution.
    • Membership & Intake Management: Organize our membership database and help implement a "Membership Card" system to expedite the food pick-up process for our neighbors.
    • Logistics & Scheduling: Coordinate the "moving parts" by scheduling drivers and partners for food rescues and pickups on designated days.
    • Impact Reporting: Use our data to help tell our story—tracking the number of households served to show the tangible impact we are making in the community.
    • Process Improvement: Identify bottlenecks in how we receive or distribute food and suggest tech or workflow solutions.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Organized Mindset: You enjoy spreadsheets, workflows, and making sure everything has a place.
    • Tech-Fluent: Comfortable using (or learning) database tools, Google Workspace, and Slack.
    • Community-Centered: An understanding of the unique challenges facing Ward 8 and a commitment to serving low-income populations with radical respect.
    • Reliability: Since you’ll be managing schedules for others, your consistency is key to our success.
    • Communication: Strong writing skills for drafting procedures and clear verbal skills for coordinating with drivers.

    Why Volunteer With Us?

You won't just be "helping out"—you will be building. By establishing these systems, you are ensuring that The JJ Center can serve more families, more quickly, for years to come. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in non-profit management, logistics, or social work to gain high-level administrative experience while making a direct impact in the heart of DC.
