Description
Volunteer Responsibilities:
Volunteers help hospice patients record, transcribe, and organize their life stories into a written document that can be shared with their family as a meaningful keepsake.
Project Details
What You’ll Do:
- Meet one-on-one with hospice patients in their home or care community
- Record patients’ life stories and memories using audio recordings
- Use transcription software to convert recordings into text
- Edit and organize the content into a clear, respectful written document
- Visit for about one hour per week or one hour twice monthly (flexible scheduling)
Who This Is For:
- Writers, storytellers, or those who enjoy organizing written material
- Journalism, English, communications, or humanities students
- Volunteers comfortable with basic technology, typing, and light editing
- Individuals who prefer calm, meaningful, one-on-one service
- Anyone who values preserving personal history and legacy
To ensure safety and quality care, volunteers must meet the following:
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License
- Must be aged 18 or older
- Volunteers under 18 may participate with a supervising adult present
- Negative Tuberculosis (TB) test result (provided free in our office)
- Background check
- Drug screening
- Two-hour in-person training class at our office located at Baseline and Gilbert
- Take-home “open book” online training/test
- Consistency in availability once a volunteer schedule has been set
