Memory Book Group
Are you creative? Do you like to scrapbook? Would you like to help others?
THEN WE WANT YOU!! Come join Grace Healthcare Services make Memory Books for our patients.
We are a hospice agency servicing the terminally ill throughout New Jersey. Many of our patients have Alzheimer’s or Dementia, which are debilitating diseases of memory loss. Most of them have lost their short term memory and can no longer recognize their families, friends or surroundings, but their long term memory consisting of their childhood or years past can remain intact.
We create Memory Books to use as a communication tool. We categorize items such as food, holidays, sports, cars, flowers/gardens, people, holidays, animals, dolls, clothes, food, homes and accessories. The volunteers collate these books by finding and cutting out pictures or scenes from magazines, cards, calendars, etc. and then paste them onto sheets and put into binders. We then sit with the patients reviewing these books to see if any memory is stimulated, and many times it is.
We are starting a monthly group in the Southwest area serving Camden, Voorhees region.
Sessions are from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at various locations. Your Volunteer Coordinator will share more with you pending on where you reside.
All materials will be supplied. Just come join in a community service event, make new friends and help others. We could always use magazines so if you have some please bring them too!
