Volunteer Opportunity: Companionship Volunteers for Hospice Patients in Long-Term Care Facilities

Overview:

Are you a caring and compassionate individual who enjoys bringing comfort and joy to others? Our hospice organization is seeking dedicated Companionship Volunteers to spend meaningful time with patients residing in long-term care facilities. Volunteers will engage in simple, heartfelt activities such as coloring, reading aloud, and friendly conversation — offering emotional support and companionship to individuals nearing the end of life.

Responsibilities:

• Visit assigned hospice patients in long-term care or nursing home settings
• Participate in relaxing and engaging activities like coloring, reading, listening, or sharing stories
• Provide companionship and emotional comfort through presence and conversation
• Communicate regularly with the volunteer coordinator regarding visits and patient interactions
• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to hospice care standards

Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years or older
• Patience, empathy, and a kind heart
• Ability to engage positively with individuals experiencing dementia or cognitive decline
• Reliable and able to commit to scheduled visits
• Desire to become an active and valued member of our hospice team

Training & Support:

All volunteers receive comprehensive hospice orientation and ongoing support from our volunteer coordinator and care team. No medical experience is required — just a compassionate spirit and a willingness to be present.

Location:

Long-term care facilities partnered with our hospice program (specific locations provided upon acceptance).
