    Volunteer Grant Writer

    Organization: Open Doors Academy

    Position Type: Volunteer / Unpaid

    Work Arrangement: Remote or Flexible

    Reports To: Executive Director

    Position Summary

    The Volunteer Grant Writer will help Open Doors Academy identify funding opportunities and prepare professional grant applications to support educational programs, student services, technology, scholarships, and organizational development.

    The ideal volunteer is organized, a strong writer, detail-oriented, and interested in helping an education-focused organization secure funding.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Research foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other potential funding sources.
    • Identify grants that align with the organization's educational mission and programs.
    • Review grant eligibility requirements and application deadlines.
    • Draft grant proposals, letters of inquiry, narratives, and funding requests.
    • Assist with developing grant budgets and supporting documentation.
    • Maintain a grant opportunity and application tracking system.
    • Gather information and statistics needed for grant applications.
    • Help prepare organizational descriptions, program summaries, and impact statements.
    • Maintain accurate records of submitted applications and deadlines.
    • Assist with grant reports and follow-up communications when requested.
    • Work with the Executive Director and program staff to develop compelling funding requests.

    Qualifications

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent research and organizational abilities.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Ability to meet deadlines independently.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Google Docs, spreadsheets, or similar tools.
    • Previous grant-writing experience is preferred but not required.
    • Experience in education, nonprofit organizations, fundraising, or program development is helpful.

    Volunteer Commitment

    This is an unpaid volunteer position. Hours are flexible and may be completed remotely. The volunteer will coordinate with the Executive Director regarding assignments, deadlines, and grant submissions.
