    Description

    RLC AI Intern

    Remote

    Who we are:

Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) is a nonprofit organization committed to fighting food insecurity and preventing wasted food. We have cultivated a network of dedicated food rescuers who bring food directly from our donors to nonprofit organizations, letting neighbors help neighbors while reaping the environmental and economic benefits of reducing wasted food. Founded in 2013, our simple but elegant model has redistributed over 21 million pounds of food cumulatively.

    What you'll do

Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is seeking an AI Development Intern to help explore and implement artificial intelligence tools that support our mission-driven operations. You will assist in identifying opportunities where AI can improve efficiency across our programs — from food rescue logistics and donor communications to data analysis and impact reporting. You will work closely with our team to research, prototype, and document AI-powered solutions that drive real-world impact.

    Responsibilities:

    • Research and evaluate AI tools and technologies relevant to nonprofit operations and food rescue logistics
    • Assist in building and testing AI-powered features such as chatbots, automated messaging, or data classification tools
    • Support data collection, cleaning, and analysis to help train or improve AI models
    • Collaborate with team members to identify workflows that can be automated or enhanced using AI
    • Document processes, findings, and recommendations in clear, accessible language
    • Help communicate AI-driven insights to non-technical stakeholders across the organization

    Who you are:

    • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, or a related field
    • Understanding of large language models, prompt engineering, or generative AI tools
    • Self-motivated with the ability to initiate tasks and work independently
    • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines
    • Passionate about food rescue, sustainability, and food insecurity issues
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
    • Preference for Greater New York Metro area

RLC interns have the chance to work closely with the executive team and have the opportunity to make a true, meaningful impact during their time with the organization. This is a part-time, unpaid internship, although interns will be reimbursed for travel if local to an operational RLC branch and actively complete food rescue pickups. Interns are expected to work 20 hours per week. The start date is June 2026, with an end date in August 2026. Students should consult with academic faculty to determine if this unpaid experience will earn academic credit.

To express your interest, please send an email to HR Manager, Shilpi Tandon, at shilpi@rescuingleftovercuisine.org and attach a copy of your resume.
