    Description

    The MAHJ

The MAHJ ATX is hosting a night market on Saturday, May 23rd and we need volunteers!

Welcome to an interactive experiment! Night market, mahjong parlor, local art gallery, community partners, live DJ sets and more all to explore: “What impact do creative experiences in shared spaces have on social connection and mental and social well-being at the community level?”

This question is explored through a series of live, in-person mahjong gatherings and community-based events hosted by the MAHJ.

If you are interested in discussing volunteering or sponsorship opportunities, please reach out to us at hello@themahjatx.com

We, literally, cannot do this without you. These events are brought to you by a small but experienced team, working with limited resources and a big dream. 100% of contributions go directly toward supporting artists, collaborators, and event production.

    Instructions:

The day before the event, Friday, 5/22, we will need support with Event Set Up & the creation of Art Installations.

The day of the event, Saturday 5/23, we will need support with Vendor Set Up, Event Set Up, Greeting Vendors & Guests, Roaming Support, Volunteer Support, First Aid and Clean Up

The day after the event, Sunday, 5/24, we will need support with Event Tear Down.

Please see descriptions for each role here:

    Friday (5/22) – Pre-Event Support

    Event Set Up

Help prepare the event space by setting up tables, chairs, and other materials. Follow layout plans and assist with organizing supplies.

    Art Installation Support

Work alongside artists/leads to assemble and place art installations. This may include lifting, positioning, and basic assembly tasks. You don't need to be an artist to assist with this!

Saturday (5/23) – Event Day Support

    Vendor Set Up

Assist vendors with unloading, finding their assigned spaces, and getting set up. Answer basic questions and direct them as needed.

    Event Set Up

Support final event preparations such as arranging tables/chairs, setting up stations, and ensuring everything is ready before guests arrive.

    Greeting Vendors & Guests

Welcome vendors and attendees with a friendly attitude. Provide directions, answer questions, and help create a positive first impression.

    Roaming Support

Move throughout the event to assist where needed with troubleshooting small issues, covering so other's can use the restroom or get food, and helping guests and vendors as needs arise.

    Volunteer Support

Check in with volunteers, provide guidance, help with breaks, and ensure everyone has what they need to do their role effectively.

    First Aid Support

Be available to respond to minor injuries or concerns. Direct individuals to proper medical help if needed (CPR & First Aid certification strongly encouraged for this role!)

    Clean Up

Help keep the event space tidy during and after the event by collecting trash, organizing materials, and maintaining cleanliness. We have Distribution Hall for the full clean up on 5/24 but we can accomplish a lot in an hour with your help!

    Sunday (5/24) – Post-Event Support

    Event Tear Down

Assist with dismantling art, folding up tables, removing signs, and packing up installations. Pack materials, load equipment, and help restore the venue to its original condition.
