This role is ideal for a versatile, “jack of all trades” communicator who can operate across both strategy and execution in a growing nonprofit environment.

The individual in this role will have the opportunity to shape how the organization communicates with partners, supporters, and the broader community, while building and leading a small communications function over time.

    • Create and edit content across platforms, including social media, newsletters, website updates, and outreach materials
    • Translate program activities and organizational priorities into clear, compelling narratives
    • Support messaging for partnerships, fundraising efforts, and external engagement
    • Help guide and organize social media presence, including content planning and consistency of voice
    • Assist in positioning organizational leadership for external visibility opportunities
    • Recommend and implement simple communications systems, templates, and workflows to improve consistency and efficiency
    • Collaborate with program and operations teams to ensure alignment between communications and program delivery
    • Support recruitment of additional communications volunteers as needed
    • Help define roles and responsibilities within the communications function
    • Provide guidance, coordination, and light management of communications volunteers or contributors

    Time Commitment:

Approximately 5–10 hours per week, with flexibility depending on organizational needs and ongoing initiatives.

    Ideal Candidate Profile:

    • Strong writing and editing skills across multiple formats
    • Ability to think strategically while also executing independently
    • Comfort with both independent work and light team coordination
    • Interest in building and shaping a communications function
    • Experience or interest in nonprofit, human services, or mission-driven work
    • Familiarity with social media, newsletters, and basic communications tools

    What You’ll Gain:

    • Experience leading and developing a small communications team
    • The opportunity to gain or expand management and leadership experience in a growing organization
    • A strong portfolio of strategic and hands-on communications work
