Advocacy & Outreach Specialist - Professional Volunteer

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

The SpreadYourHeart Organization is seeking a dynamic, passionate, and community-driven Advocacy & Outreach Specialist, Professional Volunteer to help build bridges between our programs and the communities we serve.

As an Advocacy & Outreach Specialist, you will be the boots-on-the-ground voice for SYH. You will connect unhoused neighbors, local creators, and community members with vital resources, foster strategic partnerships with local businesses and civic organizations, and lead field engagement for key initiatives like the TENT HOMIES Campaign, EVERYTHING GREEN Campaign, and our SPREAD THE SPACE Network.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead in-person community engagement during CareKit distributions, pop-up events, and shelter outreach to build trust and connect individuals with supportive services.
• Identify, contact, and cultivate relationships with local non-profits, shelters, civic groups, small businesses, and community centers to expand SYH’s strategic reach.
• Spread awareness about upcoming events, support circles, and community workshops using flyers, digital communication, and face-to-face networking.
• Represent SYH at local community meetings, tabling opportunities, networking mixers, and advocacy events during awareness months (e.g., National Homeless Awareness Month).
• Gather community feedback, participant stories, and field data to help SYH leadership refine program delivery and track social impact.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Background or strong interest in community organizing, social work, public health, non-profit outreach, public relations, or advocacy.
• Excellent interpersonal, active listening, and public speaking skills with the ability to connect authentically with diverse groups and underserved populations.
• A compassionate, non-judgmental, and trauma-informed approach to working with unhoused community members, low-income families, and grassroots organizers.
• Ability to manage community relationships, follow up on outreach leads, and coordinate event logistics independently or in a team setting.
