One Hour a Week Can Change a Student’s Future — Tutor at Summit on Saturday Mornings

You Can Change the World… for One Child.

Summit Educational Association is looking for volunteers to tutor and mentor an inner-city grade school student for two hours per week in a structured tutoring program. Our students are in 4th–7th grade and benefit greatly from the consistent support of a caring mentor.

Volunteers are paired with the same student each week and help strengthen academic skills such as reading and math, while also serving as a positive role model.

What volunteers do during the weekly session:

    • Tutor for 1 hour
    • Attend a brief 5–10 minute character talk with the student on virtues such as honesty, friendship, or responsibility
    • Play sports or other fun activities with the student (optional – about 45 minutes)
    • Attend a brief meeting with the group leader
    • Meet briefly with the student’s parents once a month

This is a structured program with guidance and support, making it easy to volunteer even with a busy schedule.
