    Description

The Brisben Center Nature Club is a nature-immersion program aimed at promoting mental wellness and education for children at the center. Utilizing a “nature where you are approach,” this program helps residents find comfort in their surroundings and fosters a sense of peace as they tackle their path from homelessness to home.

The Role: While our specialized Master Naturalist volunteers lead the high-impact educational lessons, we are seeking hands-on Nature Club Support Assistants to help bring these events to life! You will play a vital role in ensuring these sessions run smoothly by assisting with logistics, safety, and child engagement.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Event Logistics: Help with the set-up and take-down of club meetings.
    • Child Engagement: Keep children of a variety of ages focused, engaged, and on task during lessons
    • Activity Support: Assist kids with STREAM (Science, Technology, Reciprocity, Engineering, Art, Math) based learning activities.
    • Project Assistance: Help facilitate zero-cost activities using items found right in the shelter's backyard, such as building cardboard journals, creating art with leaves and pinecones, or tracking plant growth.
    • Safety Monitoring: Ensure all activities are conducted safely on-site, within view of cameras, and follow standard safety protocols.

    What We Are Looking For

    • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude when working with children experiencing transition.
    • Ability to gently guide and redirect kids who may become distracted.
    • Comfortable working outdoors and utilizing recycled, everyday materials (like old cereal boxes, sticks, and stones) for creative projects.
    • No advanced environmental science knowledge is required—just a willingness to support our Master Naturalists and help kids connect with nature!
