Join Our Volunteer Team: Make a Difference in Adult Education

Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity to give back to your community? Do you believe in the power of education to change lives? If so, the Jackson Mann Community Center in Allston (Boston, MA) invites you to join our team of dedicated volunteers! Our Adult Education program, including our ESOL and HiSET classes, is in search of enthusiastic volunteers who are passionate about teaching, mentoring, and supporting adult learners on their educational journeys.

    Why Volunteer With Us?

    • Impact Lives: Your contribution will directly impact adult learners, helping them to achieve their language proficiency and high school equivalency goals, thereby opening doors to new career and educational opportunities.
    • Cultural Exchange: Our ESOL classes serve a diverse group of learners from various backgrounds. This is a fantastic opportunity for cultural exchange and to gain a deeper understanding of global communities.

    Volunteer Opportunities:

    • ESOL Classroom Assistant: Assist ESOL Teachers delivering English language lessons, provide one-on-one or small group support to students, and engage in conversational practice. (Classes in the afternoons and evenings from Tuesday to Thursday)
    • ESOL Conversational Classes: Lead ESOL Conversation classes on Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
    • HiSET Classroom Support: Assist HiSET Teachers and help students who are preparing for their high school equivalency tests by providing support in subjects such as Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and Writing. (Classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 9 pm)

    Requirements:

    • A passion for education and community service.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
    • Availability to volunteer during class times.
    • Must pass CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) and SORI (Sex Offender Registry Information) background checks, as our classes are hosted in a BPS (Boston Public Schools) building.
    • Previous teaching or tutoring experience is a plus, but not required.
    • Knowledge of a second language is a plus, but not required.

    How to Apply:
