    Description

    Overview:

South Bronx United (SBU) is a sports-based youth development organization that uses soccer as a tool for social change. Its mission is to prepare youth to succeed in high school, college, careers, their community and beyond. SBU serves more than 1,400 young people annually through programming on the field and in the classroom, including academic enrichment and tutoring, college prep, mentoring, leadership development, health and wellness, immigration legal services, and other individual and family support.

We are looking for volunteers to support our bi-annual Football For Equality Day (FFE) on Saturday, June 20th at Macombs Dam Park!

The idea for FFE came from our girls under-19 players in 2019 as a way to celebrate and recognize girls in the game. The tradition is carried on and continues to grow. This year, we are hoping for our biggest turn out yet as girls are inspired by the excitement of the Men's World Cup coming to their city and anticipate the Women's World Cup next year. The day is for girls to learn, play, and grow their love for the game in a safe and inclusive environment. Whether they have never touched a ball or have their sights set on SBU's Academy program, there is a place for every girl on FFE Day.

If you are passionate about keeping girls in sports and breaking down the barriers that stand between them and quality soccer programming, there is a place for you at FFE too!

We are looking for volunteers to support event operations in the following ways:

    • Coaching - GU8, GU12, GU14, or GU19 players | 12 volunteer coaches needed
      • Shifts Available: 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM (GU8) or 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (GU8/12/14/19)
      • Volunteers will be paired with a head coach and an Academy team player at one station for an hour, running an activity on fundamental soccer skills and supervising water breaks.
      • Volunteers with the older age groups will also facilitate small-sided games for an hour. Small-sided games will be largely self-refereed so coaches/volunteer coaches will be encouraging and stepping in only as needed.
      • Some coaching experience is preferred.
    • Tabling - Raffle, bracelet making, face painting, or partner spotlight | 4 volunteers needed
      • Shifts Available: 8:00 AM - 10:30 AM or 10:30 AM - 1:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
      • Tabling volunteers will be seated at one of 4 tables (a raffle, bracelet making, face painting, or partner spotlight) and will help engage participants and their families throughout the event.
    • Floating - Medical Assistance or Well-being | 3 volunteers needed
      • Shifts Available: 8:00 AM - 10:30 AM or 10:30 AM - 1:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
      • Floaters would either provide medical assistance as needed or help maintain a safe environment by handing out water and checking in on players throughout the day. Medical aid floaters should be certified First Aid personnel.
      • General well-being floaters do not need any certifications but should be able to be on their feet for the entirety of the event.

(All volunteers must be 18 years or older)

If you are interested in supporting us, please fill out the SBU Volunteer Application. (Filling the form out does not guarantee your placement. Applicants will be screened before they are selected to volunteer).

    Thank you!
