Schedule & Compensation
- Full-time or part-time based on organizational needs
- Primarily remote position
- Some evening and weekend availability may be required for adoption meet and greets, emergencies, and operational support
- $23 an hour
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and organized Adoptions Director to lead our cat adoption program and oversee a team of Adoptions Coordinators. The Adoption’s Director plays a crucial role in facilitating the adoption process, ensuring that each match is well-suited and sustainable and providing support for adopter’s into the future. This leadership role is responsible for managing day-to-day adoption operations, ensuring exceptional adopter support, supporting successful cat placements, and maintaining strong communication across the rescue, its partners, and adopters.
The ideal candidate is passionate about animal welfare and brings a strong background in feline behavior, rescue medicine, communication, and operational management. They are detail-oriented and can balance empathy with strong decision-making skills.
This position is primarily work from home, with occasional in-person responsibilities if there is a rescue emergency or during key organizational events. Bay Area residency is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise, mentor, and support a team of four Adoptions Coordinators
- Manage workflow, and ensure timely follow-up with adopters and fosters
- Work with volunteers and staff to ensure a smooth adoption process
- Foster a collaborative, positive, and mission-driven team culture
- Handle escalated adoption inquiries or concerns professionally and compassionately
Adoption Program Oversight
- Oversee the adoption process from inquiry through placement and post-adoption
- Review applications and guide placement decisions based on cat temperament, medical needs, and adopter compatibility
- Ensure all adopters receive education regarding cat care, introductions, behavioral expectations, and ongoing support
- Facilitate the resolution of any post-adoption issues or concerns
Qualifications
- Previous 1+ years experience in animal rescue, shelter operations, veterinary medicine, or adoption management required
- Strong knowledge of feline behavior, handling, and enrichment
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Excellent customer service, communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills
- Proficiency with Slack, Google Workspace, Excel/Google Sheets, and database management systems
- Bay Area residency preferred
