    Description

    Organization: TROA

    Department: Executive Operations / Governance

    Position Type: Volunteer Leadership Role

    Location: Remote

    Reports To: Executive Leadership

Join TROA and Help Protect the Mission

TROA is looking for a dedicated Legal & Compliance Team Member to help protect, strengthen, and guide the organization as we continue to grow.

This is not just a policy role. This is an opportunity for someone who understands how to help protect an organization, reduce risk, ensure accountability, and support the foundation needed for long-term growth.

As TROA expands across infrastructure, nonprofit operations, community systems, digital services, and public-facing initiatives, legal oversight and compliance support have become critical to protecting both the organization and the people we serve.

We are looking for someone who can help ensure TROA operates responsibly, ethically, and in alignment with legal standards, internal policy, and organizational governance.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in nonprofit compliance, legal administration, policy review, risk management, contracts, internal investigations, or organizational governance who wants to use their experience to support a mission-driven organization making a real impact.

    Position Overview

The Legal & Compliance Team Member helps support organizational compliance, internal governance, policy enforcement, legal risk reduction, and administrative accountability across TROA operations.

This role works alongside executive leadership to help ensure TROA remains compliant, protected, and properly structured as a nonprofit organization operating across multiple departments and service areas.

The individual in this role will help review internal processes, identify legal or compliance concerns, assist with documentation and governance standards, support policy creation and enforcement, and help ensure TROA maintains operational integrity across all divisions.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist with maintaining internal compliance standards, governance structures, and policy documentation
    • Help ensure organizational operations remain aligned with nonprofit legal standards and internal bylaws
    • Support leadership with legal risk identification and compliance review
    • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and maintaining internal policies, operational standards, governance procedures, and compliance documentation
    • Support internal investigations, incident documentation, dispute review, and policy enforcement matters
    • Review contracts, agreements, partnerships, vendor terms, and internal administrative documentation
    • Help ensure organizational records, governance actions, and compliance materials are properly documented and retained
    • Monitor for legal, regulatory, or procedural risks that may affect TROA operations
    • Assist with conflict resolution, organizational accountability, and policy interpretation
    • Provide support on organizational structure, operational compliance, and risk mitigation
    • Help leadership maintain ethical and defensible operational practices

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in legal operations, compliance, governance, policy administration, risk management, or nonprofit oversight
    • Familiarity with nonprofit organizational standards, internal governance, and compliance frameworks
    • Strong understanding of policy interpretation, documentation standards, and administrative process control
    • Experience reviewing contracts, legal language, internal agreements, or governance documentation
    • Ability to identify operational risk and provide practical, defensible recommendations
    • Strong written communication and documentation skills
    • High attention to detail and discretion when handling sensitive matters
    • Ability to work independently and maintain objectivity in leadership matters
    • Experience supporting executive teams, nonprofit boards, or operational leadership is strongly preferred

    What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is level-headed, detail-oriented, objective, and capable of helping TROA protect itself as it grows.

This role requires sound judgment, professionalism, discretion, and the ability to navigate difficult situations with clarity and integrity.

The ideal candidate understands that compliance is not about bureaucracy — it is about protecting people, protecting the mission, and ensuring the organization is built to last.

    Why This Role Matters

TROA is not just a gaming community. We are a mission-driven organization focused on infrastructure, community support, nonprofit initiatives, operational services, and advocacy — including our continued work to help #StopTheStigma surrounding mental health.

As we continue to grow, so does the need for structure, accountability, and protection.

The Legal & Compliance Team Member plays a critical role in helping ensure TROA remains protected, ethical, compliant, and sustainable for the future.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Leadership experience in a growing nonprofit organization
    • Direct involvement in organizational governance and strategic operations
    • Experience shaping policy, compliance, and internal legal structure
    • Opportunity to directly support and protect a mission-driven organization
    • Professional portfolio experience in governance, compliance, and executive operations
    • The ability to make a meaningful impact in a role that directly supports the organization and its future

    How to Apply

If you have experience in legal operations, compliance, governance, risk, or policy and want to help build and protect something meaningful, we want to hear from you.

Join TROA and help protect the mission behind the movement.
