Only veterans can relate to other veterans in a way society will never truly understand.
In our hospice community veteran's face repressed feelings of when they were in service. They often feel like they can't relate to people or their care team. There is a need for making Veteran's feel comfortable and giving them the right resources on their journey through end of life.
At Aurora hospice, our volunteer program pairs Veteran volunteers with hospice patients who are also Veterans. Veteran volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with each patient, creating an environment where life review and healing may occur. A visit will brighten their day and lighten your heart.
Volunteers are essential to the delivery of quality Hospice care. Veterans are a part of a distinct culture with their own common language and experiences. Safety is our #1 priority, so a background check and health history will need to be completed. Aurora volunteers are required to be vaccinated for Flu during flu season.
