    Description

    Who Are We?

Episcopal SeniorLife Communities has been an inspirational leader in senior health and wellness for more than 150 years. ESLC owns and operates a number of senior living communities with levels of care that range from independent living to skilled nursing. ESLC believes that seniors want to be part of a neighborhood community, where they are engaged and respected.

    What is the Neighborhood Program?

ESLC’s Neighborhood Program is unique among senior living centers. The goal of the program is to help older adults live independently, in their place of choice, in a healthy, safe and fulfilled way. The program offers a range of activities, such as exercise, nutrition, educational events and social outings, all of which are geared to improve and maintain wellness.

    How Can You Help?

ESLC is seeking volunteers who are energetic and eager to help in the community, particularly in ways that will connect with the older adult population. We are seeking volunteers to lead activities and classes on the following topics:

    • Physical fitness, such as conditioning, yoga, or balance classes
    • Nutrition or cooking demonstrations
    • Visual arts, such as drawing and painting
    • Crafts
    • Educational topics, such as history or literature
    • Foreign languages
    • Travel "logs", with photos and experiences of visiting or living in a foreign country
    • Directing a book club
    • Writing, such as short stories or poetry
    • Basic technology, such as use of applications and computer skills

The classes will be held at either Upper South Senior Housing or St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. Ideally, classes would be once a week, or once every two weeks, between the hours of 9:30 am and 4:00 pm. The duration of a class is typically one hour.

Volunteers should have solid skills in the class topic, and preferably some experience in teaching. We are interested in volunteers with strong communication skills and the ability to engage with older adults.
