AWHIV is an evidence-based self-management workshop designed to help older adults living with HIV gain the skills and confidence to manage their health, stay active, and improve their quality of life.

Volunteer facilitators co-lead engaging virtual workshops that cover topics such as medication management, nutrition, exercise, symptom management, reducing isolation, advocacy, decision-making, and action planning.

    Volunteer Responsibilities

    • Co-facilitate one virtual workshop each week for six weeks (2½ hours per session).
    • Create a welcoming, respectful, and supportive group environment.
    • Follow the evidence-based curriculum and facilitate group discussions and activities.
    • Encourage participation while maintaining participant confidentiality.
    • Communicate with program staff and complete any required documentation.

    Qualifications

    • One or both facilitators for each workshop must be a person living with HIV or someone who has a close personal connection to HIV (such as a family member, partner, or caregiver).
    • Compassionate, dependable, and comfortable working with diverse groups.
    • Strong communication and active listening skills.
    • Comfortable using virtual meeting technology (or willing to learn).
    • Willing to complete Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services volunteer onboarding and all required facilitator training.

    Training Provided

No previous facilitation experience is required. Selected volunteers will receive:

    • Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services volunteer onboarding.
