    Description

Celebrate Orca Recovery Day at South Prairie Creek Preserve - Join PCD's Oct. 17 Work Party!

Join Pierce Conservation District for a volunteer work party at South Prairie Creek Preserve on Saturday, October 17th, from 9 AM - 12 PM as we remove invasive plant species and care for this critical salmon habitat in support of our iconic and endangered Southern Resident Killer Whales, who rely on salmon as their primary food source. During the fall and winter, we have a wonderful opportunity to dig out root balls and reduce invasive plant species competition. We have planted over 46,000 tress and shrubs over the last 20 years at the Preserve, and invasive plant species control is a necessary task to give these native plants the best conditions for survival.

Volunteers are also invited to attend an optional bird walk at 7:30 AM before the work party begins.

    What To Expect:

    • Uneven terrain, wet and/or muddy ground.
    • Parking is limited. Please try to carpool with others in your party, if possible.
    • A porta potty is available on site.

    What To Bring:

    • Dress for success - Event will happen rain or shine, so please check the weather the morning of and dress accordingly:
      • Layers are encouraged (long pants and sleeves)
      • Close-toed, water-resistant shoes (rainboots work swimmingly)
      • Rain jacket
    • Full, reusable water bottle
      • A refill station will be available.
    • Personal gloves and tools
      • PCD will have ample loaner tools and gloves available, but you may bring your own gloves/tools if you wish.
