Description
Help Believe in Me strengthen practical compliance systems across programs serving underserved youth and young people.
The volunteer Compliance Officer will coordinate approved policy, training, monitoring, reporting, and remediation workflows. This role supports compliance administration and does not independently provide legal advice or replace authorized counsel.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain an approved inventory of obligations, owners, policies, controls, training, reviews, and due dates
- Coordinate periodic reviews across nonprofit governance, fundraising, privacy, youth safeguarding, accessibility, finance, grants, records, technology, volunteers, and communications
- Track disclosures, attestations, incidents, corrective actions, evidence, and policy exceptions
- Draft clear procedures, checklists, training materials, and status reports for authorized review
- Support risk assessments and route specialized legal, tax, employment, security, or regulatory questions appropriately
- Protect privileged, confidential, participant, personnel, donor, financial, and incident information
- Promote nonretaliatory reporting and fair, documented processes
- Avoid interpreting law as counsel, conducting unauthorized investigations, or making disciplinary decisions
- Escalate serious, repeated, overdue, or high-risk concerns immediately
Qualifications:
- Experience in nonprofit compliance, risk, audit, governance, privacy, safeguarding, finance, human resources, security, or regulated operations
- Strong policy, evidence, project management, discretion, and plain-language communication
- Ability to distinguish administrative support from legal advice
- Relevant certification or legal training is helpful but not required
- At least 25 years old and willing to complete background, reference, and confidentiality requirements
This is a remote, recurring role available within the United States. Expect approximately 5–9 hours per month.
