    Description

    ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Paint Your Blessings Foundation (PYBF) is a Brooklyn-based 501(c)(3) public charity founded in 2018 that promotes emotional healing, creative expression, and community wellness through the arts. We serve underserved youth, families, and community members across East New York, Brooklyn through free, faith-integrated programming.

In October 2024 we received our IRS 501(c)(3) public charity designation. This September 2026 we are launching two free clinically-supported community programs — Color My Sundays (therapeutic healing circles, 2nd & 3rd Sundays) and Wellness Wednesdays (art wellness for youth and families, 2nd & 4th Wednesdays) — both led by a licensed clinical social worker on our team.

Our board includes a VP Risk & Controls Manager from MUFG, a 27-year NYC Department of Education professional, a licensed clinical social worker (LMSW, CASAC-T), and an international marketing director — a serious team that needs governance leadership to reach the next level.

    ——

    THE OPPORTUNITY

PYBF is seeking an experienced Independent Board Chair to provide governance leadership, strategic direction, and institutional credibility as we scale toward a $325K annual budget and beyond. This is a rare opportunity to help shape a mission-driven organization at a pivotal moment — just before program launch — with a committed board, licensed clinical programming, and growing grant relationships already in place.

    ——

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    • Preside over all board meetings (quarterly; monthly during September 2026 launch phase)
    • Partner with Executive Director Kay Clarke-Sealey on strategic direction and major funder relationships
    • Provide governance oversight — ensure board compliance with bylaws and nonprofit best practices
    • Lead recruitment to fill 1–2 remaining board seats (Development Chair, Legal Counsel)
    • Serve as external ambassador with funders, civic leaders, and community partners
    • Support grant applications by providing governance credibility and documentation
    • Help guide PYBF toward our $250K+ fundraising milestone and 2028 permanent community center goal

    ——

    IDEAL BACKGROUND

    • 5+ years of nonprofit governance experience
    • Prior board leadership — Chair, Vice Chair, or Committee Chair
    • NYC metro area network and relationships
    • Background in arts, wellness, mental health, education, or community development preferred
    • Independent — no conflicts of interest with PYBF staff or vendors
    • Commitment to racial equity and serving underserved communities
    • Strong facilitation and communication skills
    • Fundraising or donor relationship experience a plus

    ——

    WHY JOIN PYBF NOW

    • Ground-floor governance leadership at a moment of real momentum
    • IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) · 8 years of community trust · 6,500+ lives touched
    • Committed founding board with strong professional credentials
    • Licensed clinical programming launching September 2026
    • Clear $325K fundraising roadmap across 11 revenue streams
    • Established community partnerships: NYC Council District 42 (Council Member Chris Banks), NYPD Community Affairs, Home Depot
    • Connected to BoardAssist — they are ready to place our Chair once we reach $250K/year

    ——

    TIME COMMITMENT & GIVING EXPECTATION

    Approximately 4–6 hours per month:

    • Quarterly board meetings (60–90 minutes via Zoom)
    • Monthly 30-minute check-in with Executive Director (launch phase only)
    • Annual strategic planning session (3 hours)
    • Committee and governance work as needed

Annual giving expectation: A personally meaningful gift + help cultivate one external donor or funder relationship per year. No minimum dollar amount — we value your network and leadership as much as your gift.
