    Description

Youth Assistant Coach & Volunteer (Ages 12+) – Girls Hockey Program

    About The Empowerment Effect

Founded in 2022, The Empowerment Effect is a women-led nonprofit dedicated to advancing sports equity and empowering girls ages 7–17 in the Los Angeles area. Our signature Developmental Hockey Program is completely free for all participants, providing full gear, on-ice training, off-ice personal development workshops, and community events to help young girls build confidence, resilience, and leadership skills.

    Role Overview

Are you a youth hockey player or student (ages 12+) looking to gain leadership experience, earn volunteer community service hours, and give back to the game? We are looking for enthusiastic Youth Assistants to support new to beginner players in a fun, encouraging environment.

You do not need prior coaching experience! Whether you are a current youth player who loves being on the ice or someone who wants to help out with off-ice team events, we will give you all the support and training you need to succeed.

    Schedule & Location

    • When: October through May (Sunday afternoons, 2–3 times per month)
    • Where: East West Ice Palace in Artesia, CA
    • Bonus Events: Optional opportunities to help out with off-ice workshops and community events throughout the season

    What You’ll Do

    • On the ice, assist adult lead coaches with basic drills and help beginner skaters build confidence
    • Off the ice, help welcome players, support gear fitting, and keep team energy high and positive
    • Act as an encouraging peer to younger participants who are brand new to the sport

    How We Support You

We want this to be a great growth experience for you! You will receive:

    • Weekly emails with practice plans so you always know what to expect before stepping on the ice
    • Monthly virtual volunteer check-ins to connect with the coaching team and share feedback
    • Leadership development opportunities and coaching skills training throughout the season
    • Signed verification for school community service/volunteer hours upon request

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Must be age 12 or older
    • Comfortable skating if assisting on the ice (no skating required for off-ice volunteer roles!)
    • Positive attitude and commitment to inclusion, teamwork, and encouragement
    • Must complete online athlete safety training
