Position Summary
The Volunteer Music Therapist provides compassionate, supportive presence to hospice patients through music-based interactions that promote comfort, relaxation, and emotional expression. This role supports the hospice philosophy of enhancing quality of life for patients and families facing serious illness.
Music therapy volunteers complement the interdisciplinary team by offering calming and meaningful musical experiences that address emotional, spiritual, and psychosocial needs.
Key Responsibilities
• Offer calming, supportive musical presence at bedside, in facilities, or patient homes
• Adapt music selections to patient age, culture, and personal preferences
• Observe patient comfort and response to music, adjusting as needed
• Maintain a respectful, quiet, and supportive environment during visits
• Communicate visit feedback to the Volunteer Coordinator as appropriate
• Support emotional and spiritual comfort through music when welcomed by patient/family
