    About Friends of Mother Earth

Friends of Mother Earth (Amigos de la Madre Tierra) is a nonprofit organization working to strengthen climate resilience, environmental protection, and community preparedness in Bolivia.

Our flagship initiative is establishing Bolivia’s first nationwide network of Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) to help communities respond to climate-related disasters such as floods, wildfires, drought, and landslides.

In February 2026 we launched the program by conducting a CERT Train-the-Trainer course in Cochabamba, certifying instructors from six Bolivian departments who are now preparing to establish community emergency response teams in their municipalities.

Our long-term vision is to build a national network of trained community responders capable of protecting lives, livelihoods, and ecosystems in regions increasingly affected by climate change.

    Role of the Board Member

Friends of Mother Earth is seeking mission-aligned individuals to join our Board of Directors as we expand our climate-resilience programs in Bolivia.

Board members provide strategic guidance, governance oversight, and support for organizational development and fundraising.

Board members will help guide the organization as it grows from a startup initiative into a scalable international nonprofit program.

    Responsibilities

    Board members will:

      • provide strategic oversight and governance
      • support fundraising and donor engagement
      • contribute professional expertise to strengthen the organization
      • serve as ambassadors for the mission
      • participate in board meetings and periodic planning discussions.

Board members are not expected to manage day-to-day operations but to provide high-level guidance and support.

    Desired Background

We welcome candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

      • climate resilience and environmental sustainability
      • disaster risk reduction or emergency management
      • international development or Latin America programs
      • nonprofit governance and fundraising
      • finance, law, or organizational management
      • philanthropy or foundation networks.

Individuals with experience in climate adaptation, environmental conservation, or humanitarian response are particularly encouraged to apply.

    Time Commitment

    Board members typically commit:

      • 4–6 board meetings per year (virtual)
      • occasional consultation with staff or program leaders
      • support with networking and fundraising when possible.

    Why Join

This is an opportunity to help build an innovative program that:

      • strengthens climate resilience in vulnerable communities
      • protects ecosystems of global importance
      • supports community-led disaster preparedness.

Board members will play a key role in shaping the growth of a new international environmental and humanitarian initiative.
